A New Brand Identity and Logo for a National Disease Surveillance Network

This project was completed with Andi Counts at Veridian Design Group, LTD.

As a graphic designer, I had the opportunity to contribute to the Multi-state EHR-based Network for Disease Surveillance (MENDS), a project initiated by the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors. The goal of MENDS is to create a comprehensive disease surveillance system by collecting data points from all over the country and formulating them into a single database.

My role in this project was to create a new brand identity and logo for MENDS that would represent the network's modern approach to data collection and analysis. We used NACDD's secondary color palette and modern primary colors to create a strong and forward-thinking visual identity for the brand. The logo itself consists of building blocks that represent the data points being collected from all over the nation.

To get the message of MENDS across, we created numerous single-page infographics that were easy to understand and highlighted the importance of disease surveillance. We also developed PowerPoint and Word templates, along with various publication reports, to ensure that the brand was consistently represented across all platforms.

One of the challenges of this project was to create a visual identity that would be easily recognized across various regions and audiences. We accomplished this by using bold colors and simple, geometric shapes to create a logo that is both memorable and adaptable. With the new brand identity and accompanying visuals, MENDS is now better equipped to communicate their mission and goals to a wider audience, and to create a more comprehensive disease surveillance system for the nation.

Overall, I am proud to have been a part of this project and to have contributed to MENDS' success in promoting better health outcomes for Americans.
